A Subtle Hair Restyle  I might be a tad too impatient to re-root , so as a sidebar I have taken to attempting to do restyles to a few of my CG's hairstyles . I don't have the proper tools or equipment to take a stab at anything that's too elaborate , so I have satisfied myself to stay rather subdued , which is at least beneficial enough to help me practice at the basics of hair re-styling . My first tweak job to hair was to my PB Blonde , the second to the red haired wig that now adorns my 21st Jacqueline/Gila Garnet custom . The latest , my third , is to my PB brunette . I really just wanted to trim the hair , add a few waves and style it so that it had a bit more of a practical look as well as serving to frame the face nicely . It's not a major change , but I like the way it has softened her look . I am thinking about giving her bangs , just don't really know whether I'll give her insane " manga " bangs , an asymetrical " half bang " , or a standard " Bettie Page " bang .  I have a fairly good understanding of the " Riddle of Steel " , but the " Conundrum of Cloth " is a continuing mystery . Sewing is quite a bit like putting together a puzzle , and unfortunately I'm still trying to fit the pieces in place . I wanted to create a sci-fi themed duster , a mix of styles that drew upon an asian , military and anime look . As is typical with most of my sewing projects , I first sketched out a rough idea of what I was looking for , basically the underlying structure , and then created patterns that I thought would best give me the final result . There is a lot to this duster that came about simply through the process of sewing it , both for good and ill . At this stage it is nearing the final construction , yet still to come are the finishing details such as pockets , epaulettes and anything else I think of as I complete the work . Whether or not it will actually make it to the end as a finished project or get dumped into my " failed work " pile to serve as a " prototype for enhancement " is still a begging question .  I used acid free hemming tape to seam the collar yoke of the duster , which gave me a nice crisp fold on the outside edge and did wonders for the overall look of the duster ; which made me think that this little project could indeed work . Next I decided to add some muthuh-huge pockets just cuz I thought they'd look neat in addition to allowing my sci-fi gal to stuff her pockets with lots of space contraband or what have you . My ponderings of who this girl was going to become led me to think of a starship pilot , a kind of female Han Solo , so I started thinking that this duster is a coat that she wears alot , so the big pockets would come in handy for carrying whatever might be necessary . It also led me to think that there should be additional pouches around her waist to hold more stuff . I also decided to give her a big gun , something that would look like it could handle a variety of threats , and that the holster should be incorporated into the coat . The gun is carved from basswood , given several coats of primer and acrylic paint as a base and then several coats of fixatif to mask the fact that it's wood .
