![]() I've got a small section of my library devoted to the samurai , from my days as a sculptor and illustrator , and while it is quite extensive the reference sources for horses and saddlery are small compared to those for armor and weaponry . Inadequate is a good word for the amount of referenceable material for actual construction of a 1:6 scale reproduction , so to get more info , I turned to the internet , and have increased the amount of material available for study sizeably . ![]() As far as visual dynamics go , even european knights and destriers are hard pressed to match the flamboyance of a mounted samurai . A full set of barding for the horse in Japan is a rarity , as the concept of mounted cavalry really never took hold when compared to the feudal european theatre of combat , but the sashes , fringes , and caparisons certainly make up for the lack of horse armor as far as diversity and decoration goes . The stirrup panels , or flanchards , being the only actual armor worn , and in lieu of the metal typical of european flanchards , japanese versions were typically leather meant to protect the horse's sides from the heavy metal stirrups moreso than the weapons of foes . Another oddbit of japanese protection for the mounted samurai was a stiffened cloth draped wooden frame that was attached to the back of the samurai's armor that served not only to increase the wearers visibility as far as identification went , but also as an arrow catcher . ![]() ![]() ![]() | samurai_saddle2 | samurai_saddle3 | samurai_saddle4 | samurai_saddle5 | samurai_saddle6 | samurai_saddle7 | | Let's Paint ! | PaintinKini2 | Steve Zodiac Shockini Custom | Sword Making | Swordmaking1 | Swordmaking2 | WarhorsePreview | Simple Masks | EasyVelcro_fro | Cool Girl Wrist Conversion | samurai_saddle | DX Disaster | Fix It!
