![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I'm a rank novice when it comes to tooling leather , this being my second application of said skill . And while it would be nice to invest in the proper tools to do the job , those sets run into the $500 buck and beyond range , so for the time being I use wood working tools and make my embossing and debossing implements out of whatever I have on hand and keep my tooling projects simple . Fortunately with functional saddlery , the tooling can remain simple and still look good enough to pass . Most of what I've done on the two saddle sets I have made , is simple borders and piping and is easy to do with the simplest of tools . As samurai saddles are concerned , there are a lot of examples out there where the details are part of the dyeing process moreso than any actual tooling , which generally fits into the realm of the areas I have previously mentioned - borders and piping . As long as you have the basic tools , a very sharp knife and a leather punch , you can still create a saddle set of your own . ![]() The key to tooling leather is to wet the leather enough to make it take the pressure you are applying either by hand or hammer . You don't want it too wet because then it becomes too squishy and won't take the crisp cuts , nor be too dry for exactly the same reason . Experimentation and practice really is the key to successful tooling . | samurai_saddle2 | samurai_saddle3 | samurai_saddle4 | samurai_saddle5 | samurai_saddle6 | samurai_saddle7 | | Let's Paint ! | PaintinKini2 | Steve Zodiac Shockini Custom | Sword Making | Swordmaking1 | Swordmaking2 | WarhorsePreview | Simple Masks | EasyVelcro_fro | Cool Girl Wrist Conversion | samurai_saddle | DX Disaster | Fix It!
