 When it comes to all show and no tell , you really have to hand it to Mattel , especially concerning their " Barbie Collector " series . They have pretty much nailed producing stuff that " looks awesome " that is basically all filler with absolutely no meat . It certainly proves the importance of design , While having " cut my teeth " on Barbie when it comes to " action figures " , a term that I apply more than loosely in this context ; I have very little good to say about their products which on a whole are about as cut rate as anything possible , still they do occasionally have some genuine quality products - they are indeed rare , but they exist . Case in point : The " Barbie Collector Black Label " 70' s Cher Doll under the design direction of Bob Mackie .   If Mattel would take some of the outrageous money they are probably paying Bob Mackie for the use of his name , or pare back a bit on the licensing deal they have with Cher they might be able to afford to beef up their costuming materials for a " Collector Series " doll , but that's really all beside the point since I purchased this doll for one reason only , the headsculpt . Compared to the going rate for headsculpts these days , under $40 is a " find " , even moreso when it's an ethnic one and a beauty at that! The moment I laid eyes on the likeness portrayed in this doll I knew I had to have it and since it is unlikely to get any cheaper as time passes ( the Barbie collector market being what it is ) I purchased the doll almost imediately . Just to have the head .  As figures go , this one is a perfect example of a waste of plastic , the body is useless aside from standing it on a shelf and looking at it . The costuming amounts to the equivalent of a 2 dimensional illustration and the only redeeming piece is the headsculpt , which definitely displays where Mattel focused most of the budget ( well this and Mackie's paycheck ) and alone is worth the retail price of $34.99 . The likeness to Cher is perfect , the paint ops much better than most Barbie paints and the quality of the hair is actually much , much nicer than typically found , even on other Collector Series dolls .  Like I said , I bought this figure just for the head , my intention being to transplant it to a different body . The primary difficulty I have found with Barbie head transplants is neck hole size , which typically require widening the hole to allow a good fit on CG or PB neck posts .
