Slowly Distinguishing Themselves as Number One

With the foundation of Triad Toys in 2005 , it has been a long and arduous process of design and development as they position themselves at the forefront of 1:6 Scale Action Figures . Probably what most defines the passion of Triad Toys when it comes to their product releases is the fact that founder and CEO Louie Tran is a 1:6 collector and customizer himself , and as such the passion he has for the hobby is integrated within the figures they produce .

The Ternion Wars line is Triad's " Signature " series , the figures all based on an original storyline much like the progenitor " Cool Girls " that was developed by Takara , that pretty much revolutionized the 1:6 scale action figure market ; Triad's Ternion Wars is an evolution of that concept , taking it to the next level .

Pre-Evo : The " Secret " of the Alpha Series Bodies

To satisfy consumers , in the interim pending the release of Triad's EVO and EVA bodies , the initial releases of the Ternion Wars Alpha Series have been equipped with stand-in bodies , that have been quite the point of interest as far as collectors are concerned . Happily , the base body used is one that I'm sure was an economical solution for Triad , and for collectors , a more than suitable figure to give us what we want as we eagerly anticipate the long awaited Evo bodies .

Sea International provides this body blank , most recognized for their Zero Metal and Moon Girl figures produced by Da Joint , and it is an above average body blank , all things considered . The proportions and anatomy are solid and well executed and the jointing is nicely integrated so that even nude the figure is aesthetically attractive .

The Articulation Factor

There are of course , a few areas where the articulation leaves a bit to be desired , but on a whole this figure is able to execute a wide range of posing options . I am particularly pleased with the ankle articulation , which allows a fantastic level of crouching dynamics that you don't get with most figures . The downside of the ankle articulation is that of looseness over time , but fortunately , due to the costume of the Genzoukage figure , this is an aspect that really won't be much of an issue .

I'm a bit of a " nay saying nellie " when it comes to bendy hands , and I was unsure how I'd feel about the hands on this body , which are " bendy " . The weakest aspect of them is cracking and peeling paint which gives Genzoukage the appearance of a really bad case of psoriasis . The upside is that they do allow him to wield his weaponry ( sickles and shuriken ) and are great for gesticulation . Michelangelo always held that the hands were key to communication and the properties of " bendy " hands definitely enhance this aspect of figure posing .

Where's the Bearskin Rug ?

If there is one aspect I think I , myself , will continue to try to develop , it would be the ultimate neck joint . If I could create an aesthetically attractive neck that allows the same level of articulation as a real neck then I might consider my work done in this world . I'm interested to see how triad has approached this with their EVO and EVA bodies . The Sea International body does , however , handle most of the other articulation concerns quite admirably . Were the wrist joints and ankle joints ball and socket style , then I might consider this figure body practically perfect .

An Archetypal Character

Triad's Ternion Wars Alpha Series is at this stage a triad ( fitting ) consisting of Amaya , Genzoukage and Shiroikage . My own financial woes have prevented me from purchasing all of them , but I HAD to have both Amaya and Genzoukage . Shane Talbot really captured the look of a genre villain with Genzoukage , he has the beautifully sculpted features of a Christopher Reeve combined with the devilish aspects of Aboshi from the classic anime " Hakkenden " Louie's paints continue to inspire and impress with his subleties and attention to detail .

A Figure So Cool It Inspires Play

I've always liked Ninja characters , a ninja was one of my very first D & D characters , and Ninja movies have always been films that have held a particular fascination for me . Triad's Ninja characters and costumes are without doubt the best of the best , encapsulating both tradition and style . The design of Genzoukage's garb is signature Triad Style at it's finest , and their pattern maker deserves huge kudos for the functionality and fit .
