In 1970 , I discovered Bigfoot . Boy , was that a remarkable day in the life of an imaginative little kid . From that point on continuing to this day I have been fascinated and enthralled by our world of mysteries . I had already , by that time , received my introduction to the Strange and The Unknown thanks to my mother's collection of books and magazines that dealt with the UFO phenomenon ; but this was different . This was a monster on earth , not some flying disk up in the sky . Here was a mystery that offered the potential of tangible exploration , right in my own backyard , relatively speaking . It therefore seems fitting , to initiate Geeb-O-Rama's " World of the Bizarre " with the weirdness that started me off on my own personal take on reality . The Bigfoot Myth is perhaps one of the all time greatest challenges of the unknown , thanks to Roger Patterson's 1967 film footage which stirred up an unending debate between the believers and the skeptics ; which to this day continues to fuel up heated arguments from both sides . Thanks to science and hoaxers we are really no closer to solving this question as to Bigfoot's existance than we were back in 1967 unless you happen to be Bigfoot yourself . If that is the case , then you know the answer and don't require a scientist to prove you exist . My question would be , how did you A . Get your paws on a computer ? and B. Where the heck do you plug it in out there in the great Northwest forests? In the event that you're just a regular ol' human reading this , don't expect any kind of methodical scientific examination of evidence on the Bigfoot Myth here , none of that really matters considering the amount of evidence alluding to the existence of a Sasquatch . There can be only two possible answers and both are determined by an individual's perception of reality . Bigfoot is FACT , or counterpoint : Bigfoot is FANCY . Here at Geeb-O-Rama , I'm just sharing with you my own personal opinion , you can decide for yourself , that's why God gave us free will .   The largest body of evidence that proves that Bigfoot is indeed a living , breathing creature that shares this planet with man , its his big ol' footprints that he tends to leave behind practically EVERYWHERE! The skeptics point out that footprints can be faked . Yep, they are correct ; footprints can be faked . So what one must do is call upon Ockham's Razor , medieval philosopher William of Ockham's common sense supposition that if you need to explain something : explain it simply . With this in mind , which might be more probable : that a secret cult of people have been tramping around in the forests of North America for hundreds of years with oversized human foot shoes . . . or a heretofore unknown animal is responsible . DUH! Of course the skeptics refusal to accept hard evidence has benefitted the investigators , causing them to keep looking for the incontrovertible proof , which has resulted in the discovery of some really great relics , such as the Brokefoot sasquatch and the footprint where actual dermal ridges were discovered in the cast of the footprint . It's very difficult for me to conceive of someone so anal retentive as to take the effort to actually carve what are basically " fingerprints " on their big artificial foot .   The real stink ( pardon the pun ) over Bigfoot didn't get going until Roger Patterson succeeded in getting actual film footage of the creature in Bluff Creek in 1967 . This jumpy 16mm film proved that the scientists were wrong , Bigfoot WAS real . Unfortunately , the one thing you didn't want to do , was prove science wrong , 'cuz the academic world really went after him . You can probably name it and it has been said about Patterson's film . One of my favorite scoffer theories is that John Chambers of "Planet of the Apes " fame was responsible for the suit . Talk about a tie-in! It's possible that this is indeed test footage for POTA , which came out a couple years later . NAAAAAH . Arthur C. Clarke stated in his " Mysterious World " series that the filmaker's of " 2001 " proved that through a talented make-up artist , human beings could quite effectively masquerade as convincing apemen . He's right too , the Australopithecus featured in the opening sequence of " 2001 " are very believeable , but to be honest , we all knew they were actors in make-up . At the age of nine , I pretty much accepted the film as genuine . After I had grown older and much more cynical , I was willing to watch the film through much more critical eyes . Could it be a man in a suit ? Yep , it sure could be . Oh wait, I almost forgot about Ockham's Razor . . .  As an artist I've spent a bunch of time studying anatomy . As an animator I've spent a bunch of time studying the way people and animals move . As a bigfoot nut I've spent a bunch of time studying the Patterson film as well as the variety of examples put together by various and sundry folk to prove that the Patterson film is a hoax . I have also spent a bunch of time studying the films that are supposed legitimate captures of Bigfoot on film . Boil all this misspent time down to naught , and the Patterson film STILL looks to me like a real animal and NOT a man in a suit . As far as I'm concerned Bigfoot is real , for the same reason I believe a whole bunch of other animals I've never actually are seen are real , cuz there's some pretty darn convincing evidence proving it to me . Just because there aren't any professional nature cinematographers out there willing to invest the amount of time necessary to get really good footage of him , like they do with " hip " animals like lions , or elephants or gorillas doesn't mean Bigfoot's not out there . He's just a lot harder to find , and humans tend to be lazy when it comes to hard work . Bigfoot's probably a lot smarter than a lion too .
