 Ya gotta have back up that you can trust when you're a freebootin' adventuress , and Dakota's is a rambunctious little spitfire of an archaeologist with the unlikely name of Alabama Birmingham . A skilled cartographer as well as a forensic archaeologist , Alabama's penchant for firearms derives from her dad who was a green beret . Alabama's interest in all things ancient sprang from her days as a member of the Girl Scouts and her pursuit of the Gold Badge when she actively and almost singlehandedly rescued a unique native american archaeological site from being destroyed by real estate developers . Not only did she receive an accomodation for original thinking , but the Governor of New Mexico personally stepped in to dismiss the charges brought against her by the sheriff's department for her actions as well as awarding her a Distinguished Public Service Award for her protection of what has since become one of the landmark discoveries of the Tewa tribe .
