Translating the World of Nightveil from the comics to the screen was no simple task . With locations such as Dark Dhagor , Nightveil's Sanctum in the Everglades , and Alizarin Crimson's lair to shoot , Bill set himself a rather lofty goal to achieve when you consider the budget we were working with . Of course , one thing you learn about Bill Black when working with him , is his ability to think outside the box and to come up with creative and original solutions to a problem . His education in filmaking , and sage-like knowledge of film technique provided him all the ammunition he needed and Mark Heike and I were there to assist in making it happen . Mark practically built the interior of Nightveil's Sanctum in the AC warehouse by himself , in addition to creating one of the coolest props in AC memorabilia , the Great Hairy Eyeball incarnation of Azagoth . The entire crew participated in building the interiors for Azagoth's stronghold on Dark Dhagor , with Bill overseeing the construction and emphasizing the use of foreground and background elements in his set-ups to create the illusion of depth and space in an otherwise small area . In conjunction with miniatures and matte shots the overall effect in the final cut is amazingly convincing . ![]() Both Bill and I created various minitature tabletop sets of Azagoth's stronghold on Dark Dhagor , I worked on exteriors while built created interiors for travelling shots . Photoshop was used to create matte paintings from still shots of the full size sets so transitions from miniature to live action would appear seamless . The exteriors of Dhagor consisted of a castle miniature and five modular terrain forms atop a gel tinted light table and the interior was a two level , forced perspective model that allowed Bill to do a long travelling shot into the depths of Azagoth's stronghold . Lighting and visual effects were used to complete the scene and the end result is pretty cool and really sets up the action that is to come . Scott Carey , The Incredible Shrinking Man " gets screen credit for his work on the miniatures as well . Those of you out there with a keen eye and a mind for classic movie trivia will get plenty of " in jokes " with this DVD . ![]() Nightveil : WitchWar DVD is Now Available at the AC Comics Webstore ! In one of the film's action sequences , the translation of comic book to screen is superbly exemplified in the viewfinder of Bill Black's camera lens . The attack of the crevasse creature is comic book storytelling at its best . Taking a comic book from a 2 dimensional image on paper to live action has pitfalls in that transition to film . With the addition of a soundtrack and movement a director may lose sight of the important elements of staging action to best tell the story being told visually . That's a problem Bill didn't have with his solid foundation in sequential art as these screen captures amply demonstrate . There's no wasted space , the positive and negative space balance in the imagery are so well conceived in each set up , that each shot serves as a keyframe that when put together in a comic book format is a perfect mirror to the originating medium . This IS a comic book brought to life . | Synn's Silva Screen2 | The Master Speaks | | Matinee at the Bijou | It Came From Holly( LONG )wood! | The Boob Tube | Galaxy International | Synn's Silva Screen | UltraViolet | King Kong | Hollywood Is Foo | | Return Home | Updates | The Archive | Gorby Site Map | Geeb-O-Rama's Model Workshop | Geeb's Toy Box | Geeb-O-Rama Goodies | Movie Madness | World Of The Bizarre | Cool Beans | |
