Previews of Coming Attractions . . .

With the Academy Awards still fresh in our manic little movie maven minds it seemed appropriate to get the ball rolling on the SynnUltimate Synesthropic Psychotronic Featurette on Bill Black's Nightveil movie ! Consider this Episode One , of a Serial Matinee , Episode Two will follow as quickly as my schedule allows .

So sit back , keep your remote handy and start popping that bag of microwave popcorn . I don't plan on spilling too many beans about this movie so don't worry about any " spoilers " that may rob you of any potential suspense when you are actually able to pop this DVD into your player . I do , however , plan on giving you enough of a " sneak peak " to really get your " Femforce Jones " in high gear .

Halle Who ? We don't need no stinkin' DC characters !

Hollywood could learn from Bill Black , he doesn't need a mega-million dollar budget to turn out a really bad movie , he can do it for practically NOTHIN' !

Academy award winning actresses can't save a pathetic script either , and those are two things you won't find in the Nightveil movie . Boasting a cast of DOZENS , the Nightveil movie is guerilla filmaking at its best . Forget the hype about those so-called independant film makers , dig deep enough and you'll turn up some hollywood moneyman shelling out sheckles to insure that " little indy film " makes it in the cutthroat world of moviehouse bordellos . If , by some rare chance , a film like " The Blair Witch Project " squeezes through the front gate , you can bet that Hollywood will butcher the concept in the sequel .

Budget ? How Much is left on the Credit Card ?
Begun in 1996 , the Nightveil movie harkens back to Bill's early days of film production , those " no budget " quickies shot on the run , just seconds ahead of the proverbial angry crowd of enraged villagers armed with pitchforks and torches .

As technology began to catch up with his imagination , Bill enlisted the aid and talents of an army of volunteers , hobbyists and professionals alike , to take the initial bridging vehicle that formed the core of the Nightveil movie and transform it into a feature length film .

With the addition of real actors to the production , Maria Paris as Alizarin Crimson , Jon Smith , providing the voice of the dark god Zargamuu as well as playing the part of poacher , Pike ; David Herzog as his dimwitted partner Cordell and Collen Kavanaugh as the Swamp Gal , what began as a " backyard movie " suddenly became a real film .

A Good Movie Comes From A Good Story . . .

If there's one thing about Bill Black that sets him apart from other folks , it's his uncanny knack for taking a simple concept and turning it into a genuinely interesting and engaging tale . Femfans will be quite familiar with the story behind " Witch War " , it's the origin story of how The Blue Bulleteer came to become the Femforces' Mistress of the Mystic Arts ; Nightveil . We've all read the comics , and all the various incarnations of Nightveil's beginnings . If you are one of those few who haven't , then this movie will be brand new and for the diehard femfans , a fresh take on what we already know .

Good Girl Art on Film

The DVD opens with a " leg art " montage I came up with during that first weekend of shooting back in '96 . Inspired by the classic James Bond title sequences , it was my hand at working in some of the sex appeal of the " Good Girl Art " genre in the film , after all , this was a Femforce based shoot and I wanted to pay homage to that . That , and it was a way to play up to Mary Capp's sex appeal in that skimpy little Blue Bulleteer costume . I really didn't expect it to make the final cut , but Bill very masterfully edited the sequence into a suitable " intro " that manages to set up the movie that follows very nicely .

Nightveil : WitchWar DVD is Now Available at the AC Comics Webstore !

In addition to battling the swarming hordes of " love bugs " that seemed to be bouncing off not just the actors but the camera as well , Bill had to deal with spot rigging a crane shot and dealing with microphone bugs as well while location shooting the " Everglades " sequence .

There's also a classic bit of " no-budget " film work here as well , the poached Florida panther appears wholely off camera , with only sound effects and the actors reactions to make us believe they've actually bagged a big cat . Guerilla filmaking technique : shoot at a long shot and make sure there's a big tuft of saw grass to hide the fact that the cage is empty ! Bill's a freakin' genius !
