![]() A bit over a year ago i had picked up a Volks Neo Body male with the intention of creating a 12 inch Scarlet Scorpion figure . I had gone so far as to comp a mock-up on the computer to see how the body would look in Scorp's colors . That body ended up getting used on another custom but as i neared completion on 'Cat , and had her standing amongst the other figures from the " Pearls of Blood " storyline I mused that the only character missing from the line-up was The Scarlet Scorpion . I had been considering Toy Biz' 12 Inch Spiderman as a possible blank for a custom since it had a nice "super hero " body sculpt , though the articulation of the figure with a simple paint of Spidey's costume over it left much to be desired ; it looked too much like a toy , but I also thought that with a real costume over it , the musculature of it would most likely transfer very nicely as a hero figure . The Spidey figure only ran about 11 bucks so I decided to buy it and see what would happen . The first thing I did was slip one of his arms through the leg of my Cutie Honey suit ( it's red pleather ! ) and the musculature popped through quite nicely and the material had very nice wrinkles and folds when I set about posing the arm . I was inspired . I took some of my black leather and wrapped it around his leg to see how that looked were it sewed into a pant leg . . . hey , this could really work ; not so much as your stereotypical skin tight super hero suit but very much like an actual tight fitting leather super suit akin to the costumes of the X-Men films albeit in the design of the Scorpions action togs . The fix was " in " so to speak . I also had a spandex body suit from a Navy seal figure and put that on the spiderman figure backwards so that the zipper would be at the back and the visualization preliminaries were pretty much sealed . With re-sculpts on the head and hands , the addition of boot sleeves and heels and gauntlets for his arms the Spiderman figure would work very well as a custom Scarlet Scorpion . Once I had placed him side by side with the She-Cat figure my mind was most definitely made up . Scorp's time had arrived . ![]() ![]() The thought had crossed my mind to sculpt the Scorpion's mask over an existing male figure head . The problem with that being that none of the male heads I had really had that Scarlet Scorpion " look " to them . Fortunately , Spiderman's mask obliterates all facial details so it really works nicely as a head blank , and so I decided to sculpt over it . You might wonder why , since I had taken the time to create a removeable mask for She-Cat ; I did not do the same for Scarlet Scorpion . That's easy , out of costume I could just as easily pop off his head and replace it with a new normal joe head sculpt of Mike McCluskey . Now back in the old Femforce days , I generally drew Scorpion with " Batman " eyes , y'now the little white triangles . However , as I started sculpting his head in that manner he looks TOO MUCH like Batman , so I have decided to give him his human eyes beneath the mask . I will paint his head sculpt and then sew up a leather collar to fit around his neck to tie it in to his costume . Stay Tuned For Further Updates ! ![]() ![]() One of the things I like about Super Sculpey is its ease of use . Its a bit firmer than regular Sculpey and softer than Promat , thus being a very fast working medium . At 1/6th scale it takes and holds detail quite nicely . Whether you are adept at facial sculpts or a newcomer to the task its qualities are especially helpful , since you can continue to add to or take away from while you are working without disturbing what you may have already finished to the degree you need . Once cured you can then add more , drill it , sand it and really continue to finesse out the sculpt to perfection . Using sanding films , once cured , a remarkably smooth finish can be achieved . Face sculpts are both tricky and amazingly simple once you get used to how the face is formed . Typically the younger or more clean cut the face the less detail you will want to put into it since character lines and heavy detailing tend to add years to the portrait . Scorp is probably somewhere in his mid-thirties , so he does have some character lines ; the key here is to keep them soft , the deeper they are the older he'd look . He also has some lines running down at the corners of his mouth and nose to add character and they too are kept light , smoothed and subtle so that his expression is more stoic and determined rather than grimacing or excessively expressive which can also age or make him appear too ugly . I didn't want him to look like some grizzled old psychotic so his features have been kept fairly bland . A great deal of the expressiveness within a face can be allocated almost entirely to the eyes and the paint job . ![]() ![]() Cutting in the eyes isn't the easiest thing to do , but at the same point , neither must it be the most difficult . You should be fairly steady of hand if at all possible because the cuts and shaping require a very soft touch . Start with a simple shape and then add details . This was done using a needle , the point to cut in and push the sculpey and the side to roll and shape . ![]() ![]() Achieving perfectly smooth and crisp details in the raw is not something that is easy , so don't make the attempt . Try to get close but keep in mind that the finishing work on the cured piece with micro fine sanding films is what will give you that professional finish . I spent about a week doing the finishing sanding on the RAD resin kit . A head sculpt like this won't take nearly that long , maybe a few hours . The time is always well spent , and will improve the final painted result . | MicromanFemforce | PearlsofDarkness | Pearlsof Blood and Darkness | She-Cat | ScarletScorpion | Tara,TheJungleGirl | | Warrior Maiden | Femforce Customs | Jungle Woman | CopperheadPenny | CoolioGirls | WarriorMaidengallery2 | Race Bannon | sci-figal | biminirhodes | Catwoman | sorceress | Femforce Customs2 | A Mod Look | Jennifer Wetworks | OnnaBugei_sha | Gila Garnet | whisper | headsculpts | costume | Wigging It | Darth Fatalus | Swashbuckler | Finn O'malley | Darth Fatalus Diorama | streetfighter | MoonGirlRedux | dakota_montana | ZombieKillerBikerLesbos | Hair | Thaay Katar | halfbreed | princessofmars | HestervanWeiren | Autumn Bliss | BioSaber Ruby | Woman of Vanir | | CoolGirlCustoms | WildRoses | CoolGirl Collection | CoolGirl Collection2 | CoolGirl Collection3 | TheToysmith | CoolGirl Collection4 | CoolGirl Collection 5 | CoolGirl Collection 6 | CoolGirl Collection 7 | CoolGirl Collection8 | Kill All Robots CyberHuntress | CoolGirl Collection 9 | CoolGirl Collection 10 | Bad Amy | Buckaroo Betty | SimpleDetails | CoolGirl Collection 11 | coolgirlHQ | Cool Girl Comics | Cool Girl collection 12 | KisaragiKustom | AlternativeCutey | coolgirl_collection9 | DX-Style Yuni | DX Style Sanchez | Cool Girl _Akiko Fuji | CG Gallery | Samurai Figures | Cool Girl Collection13 | Cool Links | Triad_2 | Playscale ResourceCenter | Sword and Sorcery | | ReelArts Blue Bulleteer | Shocker Toys | Cool Girls | Triad Toys | KiniKomix | KiniKomix2 | Custom Action Figures | eBay Auctions | AppleseedTribute | Macross Valkyrie | Planet of the Apes | Horse Sense | WeaversUpholsteryToo | ToyBiz_Iron Man | Dirty Pair | On Display | The OTHER Gorby | Obitsu | | Return Home | Updates | The Archive | Gorby Site Map | Geeb-O-Rama's Model Workshop | Geeb's Toy Box | Geeb-O-Rama Goodies | Movie Madness | World Of The Bizarre | Cool Beans | |
