![]() I wanted to create a Cool Girl custom to pay homage to all the Japanese Anime that inspired me during my animation and comic art days ; a CG that drew upon the influences of classics such as Bubblegum Crisis , Macross and Appleseed . The Alternative Kisaragi Honey figure was particularly suited due to her very anime styled hairdo so it came down to designing and creating a costume . I wanted to keep the design of the armor suit simple , but with enough detail to it to make it interesting . I also wanted to extend that simplicity of design through to the armor attachment which is why I chose to use MAS , magnetic attachment system . This did , however , require some innovative bashing to integrate it into the design of the jumpsuit ( which is , BTW , a FunToys catsuit ! ) The shoulder armor and forearm armor attachment plates are tension springs from a cheap picture frame , cut and hammered to shape and then dremeled to smooth and cut in the edge notches ( done solely to increase the visual appeal ) . The breastplate attachment plate was a bit more troublesome . It too had to be steel in order to function as a magnetic attachment , but it also had to look like an emblem or at the very least have some visual appeal to it . Here too , I used framing supplies . In reality you would attach this piece of metal to the back of your picture frame and hang it on a wall hook ; but in this instance I cut off the wings at an angle and cut out the center of the hanging ring and turned it upside down . I used the dremel to cut in the notches as well as to drill in the concave indentations on the surface of the plate . Simple , yet effective . These various attachment plates were then cemented onto the catsuit with my favorite crafters adhesive : Helping Hand Crafters Adhesive ! It works on metal it works on fabric! ![]() ![]() The MechSuit is a combination of scratchbuilt pieces and kitbashed elements , and while based on no particular cartoon series or characters , incorporates design reminiscent of a variety of anime subjects . The armor and helmet are scratchbuilt , using Super Sculpey , and utilize magnets to hold them in place . The breastplate and backpack also incorporates some CG belt buckles and pieces from the armor detail from the CyCom Spectre Ninja , Kissy's backpack is actually the leg holster from the Alternative Harley Cool Girl , and is serving as the flight pack cradle as this figure is concerned . The flight pack is still under construction and will be shown in a future update . The flight pack is constructed of various LEGO block parts and will also attach via magnets . It has ion pods on moving arm extensions that can be raised or lowered depending on whether or not the flight pack is in active or dormant modes . The Belt is cobbled together from some detail bits from the Aki Ross figure , Microman pieces and the belt hooks from AJ Mcleod's knee pads . ![]() ![]() Kissy carries a gun taken from the Soltic robot model kit produced by Takara and released here in the states during the 80's as part of Revell's Robotech Defenders line of model kits . The various bits of armor have been primed with neutral grey gesso and are ready for final smoothing prior to painting . ![]() ![]() Planning out the color scheme for Kissy's armor was not a difficult task , since I wanted to tie it in with the colors of the figure itself . The inital coat base colors were brush painted with acrylics . The primary reason for using a brush was to do some brush modelling as I painted , so that the helmet wouldn't have a pristine , just out of the box , appearance which a full airbrush paint job would impart . After the initial paint was dry , I then began applying color with an airbrush . A light blue was applied on the white portions , gold was applied on the crown of the helmet and then white was lightly applied overall to soften everything . These shots show the helmet after it has been given several coats of sealing with a workable fixatif . I have used a workable fixatif because I can apply it heavily enough to give the helmet a high gloss yet still add additional apps of paint should the need arise . ![]() The base coat of the shoulder armor , showing the difference between the beginning of paint apps compared to that of the finished helmet . At this stage no airbrush has been used , and it is quite obvious the lack of depth the paint app has despite the modelling of light blue with the white , although the sides of the raised portion show the definition that modelling achieves prior to additional airbrush work . Also apparent is just how much depth is achieved with the addition of the glossy sealing fixatif for the final finish . To add even more interest to the armor , I have bent and glued in place a brass wire to the separating groove between the white and blue sections of the shoulder armor though it still needs to be filed down a bit . Combining different materials helps complete the illusion that the armor is more than simple polymer clay . | Re-Kreating Kissy | | CoolGirlCustoms | WildRoses | CoolGirl Collection | CoolGirl Collection2 | CoolGirl Collection3 | TheToysmith | CoolGirl Collection4 | CoolGirl Collection 5 | CoolGirl Collection 6 | CoolGirl Collection 7 | CoolGirl Collection8 | Kill All Robots CyberHuntress | CoolGirl Collection 9 | CoolGirl Collection 10 | Bad Amy | Buckaroo Betty | SimpleDetails | CoolGirl Collection 11 | coolgirlHQ | Cool Girl Comics | Cool Girl collection 12 | KisaragiKustom | AlternativeCutey | coolgirl_collection9 | DX-Style Yuni | DX Style Sanchez | Triad Toys | Cool Girl _Akiko Fuji | CG Gallery | Samurai Figures | Cool Girl Collection13 | Cool Links | Triad_2 | Playscale ResourceCenter | Sword and Sorcery | | ReelArts Blue Bulleteer | Shocker Toys | Cool Girls | KiniKomix | KiniKomix2 | Custom Action Figures | eBay Auctions | AppleseedTribute | Macross Valkyrie | Planet of the Apes | Horse Sense | WeaversUpholsteryToo | ToyBiz_Iron Man | Dirty Pair | On Display | The OTHER Gorby | | Return Home | Updates | The Archive | Gorby Site Map | Geeb-O-Rama's Model Workshop | Geeb's Toy Box | Geeb-O-Rama Goodies | Movie Madness | World Of The Bizarre | Cool Beans | |
