Bill Black's CineMadness : The Making of A Modern Classic !
It was a pretty cold weekend in January as I recall when primary location shooting began . We were putting together sets and backdrops while Bill was setting up shots and Mary was straightening her stockings .

We weren't out to make the next " Lawrence of Arabia " , heck ; we weren't even shooting for the next " Plan 9 From Outer Space " , we were trying to take the passion we had for the Femforce comic and translate it to the medium of video . As things happen , after that weekend that was pretty much it for the project , until technology caught up with Bill .

I'm Ready for My Close-Up , Mr. Demille . . .
From such humble beginnings at the core of the Nightveil movie , it's pretty amazing what Bill has achieved . I'm not gonna lie to you and tell you that we've got the next " Blair Witch " , at best the Nightveil film succeeds on its integrity , at worst it supremely fulfills Bill's homage to William Castle with the " Cheese-O-rama " gimmick . I can say , with much assurance , that it IS one of the most enjoyable times I've spent in front of the TV screen this year .

Having the dubious honor of not only providing the set decorating and some set design work for the film , as well as my contribution to the " Crevasse Creature " which may very well be the most pathetic monster EVER put to film ) and that includes " The GodMonster from Yucca Flats ! ) along with playing the part of " Azagoth " I can also say with assurance that the acting is positively godawful . On a high note , Mark Heike's construction of Azagoth in his hairy eyeball incarnation is without a doubt one of the greatest props ever built . I hope that someday Bill decides to auction it on eBay , cuz it'd make a great addition to anyone's movie memorabilia collection .

The saving grace for this film comes not just from Bill's diehard resolve to make the best film he can from the material he has to work with , but the acting talents of Maria Paris and the other professional actors that make up the cast .

Bulleteers and Blood Suckers
As I had stated before , we had never set out to make the " Nightveil " movie , only an " Elvira, Mistress of the Dark " bridging sequence for Bill's " Blood Suckers from Outer Space " film that was the first film to feature AC characters , back BEFORE there were AC characters .

With the appearance of sophisticated and easily accessible computer technology for film making outside of mega dollar studios , Bill's typical visionary creativity set into motion the groundwork that would expand his little bridging sequence into a feature length film and fill a much needed void in the Femforce archives . Batman had movies , Superman had movies , heck even Spawn and Hellboy had a movie . For AC , a company that basically paved the way for all the independents to enter the comic market , and the last of the first independents to still publish , all I can say is " It's about Damn time ! "

The story itself is the origin of Nightveil and revolves around her conflict with her arch nemesis Alizarin Crimson over the quest to obtain the mystic talisman the " Prima Gem " . We are introduced to Laura Wright in her guise of the Blue Bulleteer as she chases down thieves bent on acquiring the Prima Gem . Narrowly escaping death at their hands by the intervention of an extra-dimensional wizard , Laura Wright takes up the call as a defender of the Earth at the behest of this strange being whom we learn is a great sorceror called Azagoth .

Returning to Earth , now as the sorceress Nightveil , Laura sets up a sanctum in the Florida Everglades where she can safeguard the Prima Gem as well as use its powers for the benefit of mankind . Woe to all who trespass against her , as two redneck poachers soon learn .

Yet the dark witch Alizarin Crimson has plans of her own for the mystic might of the sacred gem stone . . .

A $100,000 Title for a $10,000 Film
The Nightveil movie features an all new process in feature film production , known as " Cheese-O-Rama " . This specialized process takes what might be considered an " ordinary " film such as , for example " Star Wars " , and heightens the level of audience awareness of really low production values ; thus increasing the entertainment factor .

Cinematographer Burson Fouche Speaks !
I was very fortunate recently to meet with Burson Fouche , the cinematographer for the Nightveil movie and conduct an impromptu interview . I had always appreciated having security monitors in the liquor store where I work , never thought they'd come in THIS handy . What follows is a transcript :

BF : Gimme a pint of your vodka .

Geeb : Hey, aren't you Burson Fouche ? Man ,I just loved your cinematgraphy on the Nightveil movie .

BF : Awww, jeez , I just want a bottle of Vodka . . .

Geeb : A pint of premium coming up , if you don't mind my asking , did the " Cheese-O-rama " process give you much trouble on that film ?

BF : Not as much as Black gave me when I asked for my paycheck . Are you gonna gimme my vodka ?

Geeb : I take it then , that you considered Bill a great director , did he provide much input as concerns cinematography ?

BF : Ain't much to cinematography when you're shooting in closets . Most of his input was " get a tighter shot of her boobs " .

Geeb : He's an artist , much like yourself . Here you go , that'll be $4.48 .

Geeb : I know Bill plans on shooting more films
based on his AC characters , will you be involved in those projects as well ?

( At this point Burson was leaving the store )

BF : As a matter of fact , I did hear that hell was in the process of freezing over .

Geeb : Have a Good Evening , thanks for shopping at . . .

Great interview , off the cuff as it was .

For fans of AC Comics and in particular Femforce , this premiere film is a real treat . Having the chance to see the two dimensional images of our favorite characters spring to life in live action is a long anticipated event .

As an added treat , we also get to see some rare cameos of comic book fame . John Beatty , inker extraordinaire appears as a thug , along with long time AC artist Chris Allen . Bill Black himself subversively appears as senator Wright , and wife Rebekah plays the part of Lenore Stratten's conniving sneak of an acolyte . Keep your eyes open for that master of Kirby iconography , Eric Coille .
Thankfully , Bill was able to land the talents of Maria Paris , Jon Smith and David Herzog as well , all extremely skilled actors who more than make up for the rest of our amateurish attempts . Maria is such a treasure to watch in the role of Alizarin Crimson , one can't help but think that she's got a great future in the film industry . Maria's presence on film is truly captivating , she reminds me of Martine Beswick . Yowza ! Jon Smith's dual role as Zargammu's voice and the lead poacher are both intimidating and hilarious , respectively , to behold . Mary Capps , while not possessing the thespian skills of Maria or Jon , does succeed in giving Laura Wright/Blue Bulleteer/Nightveil a very real and natural essence . Not to forget that she fills out the costumes nicely .

Perhaps most appealing , to me anyway , is
that unlike every other single superhero movie , the Nightveil film has been created by the very folks involved in the comics we've all grown to love . It's AC by AC , and you can't beat that with a stick .
