Drape, Fit , Cut , Fit , Sew , Fit ad infinitum !
As I mentioned previously , The Cloak of Darkness is really the definitive component of Nightveil's costume and as a novice seamster , I am being somewhat anal in it's construction . Yep , it's only my second cloak but it has to look like I've been making cloaks for years ; so I'm doing a lot of test fits and taking a great deal of care in the sewing and cutting of fabric . I have purposely cut the fabric too long for a couple of reasons ; one of which being that when I drew Nightveil in Femforce I typically made her cloak very billowy and large , unlike the shorter theatrical version which suffers the wear and tear of getting dragged around and frayed , it's a mystical artifact impervious to the elements . Secondly I want to have enough length and volume to it to facilitate dramatic poses . I had considered placing wire in it so that it can " hold " a pose but I prefer the more natural drape that is achieved sans internal wire support , moreso if the figure is just standing .
At this stage , I'm very pleased with the sheen imparted by the black nylon since it accentuates depth far more effectively than a matte black and once stars are added should help impart an illusion of stellar dust and nebulous clouds within the interior of Nightveil's Cloak of Darkness !
