If I had not already been drawn into the Triad Toys fold by the DX Style Yuni release , the latest and perhaps arguably GREATEST release , DX Style Sanchez would have been the clincher ! Never before have I seen a more realistic headsculpt and paint op on a 1/6th scale head limited edition. The photo for the title card above was just an off the cuff shot done the morning after I got her , and upon looking at it I remarked " If I did not know better I would swear it was a photo of a real person . " Go Ahead , Make Her Day!
Just for laffs , the first costume I utilized for the Sanchez headsculpt was the Robo Sec Force costume I created for Sgt. Kattaloon , because it was ; as so adequately described by one of the members of the Men With Dolls forum , " perky " looking . However , once I had gotten my goofing out , it was time to seriously consider her costuming . The DX Style Sanchez headsculpt has the advantage of looking good whatever she happens to be wearing , but in the end I decided to gear her up in one of my 1/6th scale treasures , the Funtoys' OOAK " Armoured Core " prototype suit . The styling of the suit , in combo with the Sanchez head works beautifully together to make a hard-as-nails , no nonsense paramilitary napalm pisser . Vasquez WHO!?!
You think hispanic hard gals and thanks to Aliens the first name that springs to mind is Vasquez , so ably portrayed by Jeanette Goldstein . The Sanchez headsculpt has every nuance within it to make one forget about the M56 Smartgun toting Colonial Marine , or at the very least , reconsider her . It's very nice to be able to add some ethnic diversity to your 1/6th scale femme fatale action figure line up in the caucasian and asian female headsculpt dominated market . Once again Triad Toys has succeeded in releasing a remarkable Action Figure Character Accessory set , and the unique features of the DX Style line are very apparent and shine with aplomb in Sanchez . Featuring not just a simulated skin texture ( which certainly adds a high degree of realism to the appearance of the head ) and the trademark moveable eye system , ( which makes the DX heads oh so much fun to play with ! ) the painters have certainly outdone themselves with the paint ops on this one ; never before have I seen such beautifully subtle lip paints and the eyebrows are enough to make you wonder just how they are able to find brushes THAT SMALL to paint what seems to be each individual hair . My first impression towards the DX Style line was " Boy , these are expensive! " , thankfully the Yuni headsculpt proved that the expense was wholly justified . The Sanchez headsculpt was a bit more expensive than Yuni ( but then she was paired up with what is , without doubt , one of the finest neoprene dive suits EVER manufactured ) and she too proves that paying a little more for a limited edition hand crafted headsculpt is worth the money and then some . A bit of Kitbashing
The DX Style Sanchez headsculpt comes with two little fly away hair plugs , that are really pretty nifty looking on the figure , they did not , however work so well once I had popped the head on my Armoured Core body , just not " military " looking enough . I pulled them off , and set them aside , since I might wish to reattach them at a later date . The DX heads have sculpted hair ( a minus to some , but they are handled so nicely I find them to be extremely appealing ) but for the Armored Core suit , that lack of hair volume meant that the helmet was too loose and bobbled around . It was an easy fix , taking a helmet liner from one of my Dragon military figures and putting that on the head , it serves a useful double purpose as both an anchor for the helmet and a bit more authenticity to the military styling of the figure . The Armoured Core suit originally came with Cutey Honey hands , that I swapped out in favor of Motoko hands for versatility reasons when it comes to weaponry handling , now she can carry not only her sidearm , combat knife and rifle , but I can also substitute the stock AC weaponry for whatever " firearm du jour " I feel like adding in the future . As a side note , one of the aspects that I really like about the Funtoys Prototype Armour , is the breastplate . It has a very functional feminine look to it without falling into the stereotypical armored boobs imagery that is so often the case when dealing with female armored suits . It seems " believable " in that regardless of the gal's bustline , it would serve to fit , very important for BDU's ! The original head that came with this suit was a Perfect Body blonde , and while it certainly looked nice , I think the Sanchez head really screams out when attached to this custom figure body , she's one tough looking MF ! I can't stress enough just how awesome the paint ops are on this head , and hopefully the pictures are capturing the level of detail and quality . When I look at the Triad heads I have in comparison to the other heads ( Dragon , BBI , Takara , SkyNet ) the thing that most pops out is just how much more " alive " the Triad DX Style heads are in comparison . Not to belittle the others , I love the Dragon " Amy " headsculpt , and ALL my stock BBI and Cool Girl heads , but there is such life and realism in the Triad heads they make the others look so " doll-like " it's really kind of amazing what CustomDawg is doing at Triad . I am convinced of one thing , while the FunToys Armoured Core custom has ever been one of my personal collection treasures , I think that with the addition of the Sanchez headsculpt to it , I have improved upon an already remarkably beautiful action figure . This is definitely one of my favorite pieces now , once again . ![]() ![]() The biggest problem with the Funtoys' Custom Armoured Core Prototype was the limited poseability due to the design of the armor and the Armoury body used . While I was fixing the DX Sanchez headsculpt , I played arounded with the armor . I've contemplated on several occasions modifying it in order to enhance the range of motion it allows by separating the shoulder armor from the breastplate . My appreciation of the design and the artists who created it has always stayed my blade from actually altering it . On a whim I decided to put it on my Dragon Amy figure , and found that the smaller breast size and overall thinner Dragon body in conjunction with the superior articulation of the dragon body allowed the range of motion I wanted this figure to have . In order to keep the DX Sanchez headsculpt for this custom , I needed to modify the Dragon neck pin to facilitate the DX Style headsculpt's neck connection which is designed to work with Cool Girl style neck pins . ![]() I took a spare neckpin from a CG version 1.0 body and built up sculpey around it and the Dragon neckpost . I then boil-cured the sculpey and fit the DX Sanchez to it . I did some dremeling and sanding to the neckpost and sculpey to achieve the proper fit and then applied a second layer of sculpey to build up the new neck to the proper form . ![]() With the new neckpost and the new body , the Funtoys' Armoured Core Prototype really has a much greater degree of posing dynamics that has truly enhanced this already great custom . The head has a wider range of motion as do the arms and legs of this figure , allowing much more dramatic action poses to be achieved . ![]() I have substituted the original Armoured Core's rifle with the robot killer from a 1:10th scale Appleseed Briareos figure , just because I wanted Sanchez to have a much more awesome looking firearm . I have kept the original sidearm and combat knife from the set . I still need to go in and paint the new neck post to match Sanchez' flesh tone . ![]() In the milieu of the " RobotHunters " , robots serve a variety of uses ; from slave labor to combat units that facilitate the human forces . With the growing evolution of artificial intelligence into sentience there is a rapidly expanding gulf between humankind and robotic lifeforms as regards the roles played by both societies , and a civil war is brewing between robotic and human society . ![]() | CoolGirlCustoms | WildRoses | CoolGirl Collection | CoolGirl Collection2 | CoolGirl Collection3 | TheToysmith | CoolGirl Collection4 | CoolGirl Collection 5 | CoolGirl Collection 6 | CoolGirl Collection 7 | CoolGirl Collection8 | Kill All Robots CyberHuntress | CoolGirl Collection 9 | CoolGirl Collection 10 | Bad Amy | Buckaroo Betty | SimpleDetails | CoolGirl Collection 11 | coolgirlHQ | Cool Girl Comics | Cool Girl collection 12 | KisaragiKustom | AlternativeCutey | coolgirl_collection9 | DX-Style Yuni | DX Style Sanchez | Triad Toys | Cool Girl _Akiko Fuji | CG Gallery | Samurai Figures | Cool Girl Collection13 | Cool Links | Triad_2 | Playscale ResourceCenter | Sword and Sorcery | | ReelArts Blue Bulleteer | Shocker Toys | Cool Girls | KiniKomix | KiniKomix2 | Custom Action Figures | eBay Auctions | AppleseedTribute | Macross Valkyrie | Planet of the Apes | Horse Sense | WeaversUpholsteryToo | ToyBiz_Iron Man | Dirty Pair | On Display | The OTHER Gorby | | Return Home | Updates | The Archive | Gorby Site Map | Geeb-O-Rama's Model Workshop | Geeb's Toy Box | Geeb-O-Rama Goodies | Movie Madness | World Of The Bizarre | Cool Beans | |
