The eBay Arena : All out Bid War over an AWESOME Cool Girl Custom Prototype !

I tend to keep a steady gaze at eBay as I continue to expand my collection of Takara's " Cool Girls " . They are extremely difficult to locate here in the states , a lot of stores stock them , but few actually HAVE them IN STOCK ! In contrast , eBay always has Cool Girls in attendance , some offered by asian members that have access to recent releases as well as extremely rare figures . One of my favorite sellers is FigureMonster , the man behind Actionfigure 2002 , who pretty much is THE source for the Best of the 1/6 scale action figure market . A little over a month ago he offered a real treat , a limited edition prototype figure from Funtoys ( those masters of 1/6 feminine attire from which I've acquired some truly beautiful costumes ! ) Due to limited resources , only three of these prototypes were going to be made , that is far and beyond your typical " rare " figure considering the size of the earth , and is on fairly even keel with what I would define as a " ooak " a one of a kind figure . Thanks to my eBay preferences I was able to learn of this offer as soon as it was listed , and once seeing it I knew that this was a figure I had to get into my collection . I used my experience to put an initial bid on it that would give me the advantage of knocking out any but the most serious collectors ; those whom possess the same appreciation for the work that goes into this type of work as I . The bid war that ensued was pretty minor until the last few hours when another serious collector got involved . Again I used an unfair advantage , being single , gainfully employed , and having just received a bonus from work , I adjusted my max bid to guarantee that only another person on par with my own level of obsessive compulsive psychosis could compete , and as I determined , when it comes to being " mental " , there are not many who can compete with me .

Aside from the fact that there exist but 2 more figures like this on the entire earth , this is a prime example of why I hold FigureMonster and Funtoys in such high regard . These guys are craftsman and artisans with a keenly developed eye for artifice , and have captured the essence of the " Cool Girl " mystique within this figure . She is an embodiment of the " paramilitary warrior goddess " ; beautiful , cold and deadly . One look at her and you KNOW she wouldn't have to kick your ass and take your name , because you'd give it to her gladly . It also was an important addition to my collection by virtue of the fact that it enables me to see " hands on " how true professionals go about creating a custom figure that I can learn from and add that knowledge to my own endeavors .

An interesting note , the MAS which is used to attach the weaponry to the figure are magnets encased within the armour , a very high tech approach that eliminates the need for bulky belts and harnesses , a very cyber solution to say the least .

Cool Girl Kitbash : A second " Wild Rose "

BBI's A. J . McLeod is another of my Favorite Cool Girl Figures , she's just plain sultry . Having discovered the fantastic gun rigs that are crafted by The Toysmith , I knew I had to continue creating western themed kitbashes solely to justify buying more of his 1/6 scale treasures , it's gotten to the point where I will design a figure around one of the Toysmith's rigs . I had already "sketched " out Margherite after my initial purchase from the Toysmith for her partner " Dallas " Granger , and from there sought to get Margherite up to speed with D as far as establishing her look . I missed out on the Toysmith's first offer at eBay on his black double rig , but won his second offering so " Paradise " had her pistolas . The next step was to search out a good costume that embodied both a " no nonsense " and a " girlish " look to it . It also had to have that " old world " flavor , since the concept of the " Wild Roses " is a trio of modern gals solving problems the " old western way " , with six shooters and sticks of dynamite against HK's and cruise missles . The hat and pants had come from Yamato's Bounty Hunter Kelly , the hat being really crappy looking on Kelly but having just the right look for Margherite . It's not so much a cowboy hat as a hippie kinda floppy top which in combination with the personality of Margherite works very nicely , Kelly also contributed her red scarf which became Ms. Mezcal's sash as well as her boots . Maybe its nostalgia for Tatiana Romanova from the Bond Film " From Russia With Love " but girls wearing chokers is a high intensity turn on for me ( and I'm guessing for all those Cool Girl fans , since almost every CG has some sort of neckwear along that theme ) so I took the neckerchief from Yamato's Hannah Bounty Hunter and passed it on to Margherite . The blouse and jewelry are both costume bits acquired from some Barbie sets , these I also used to add accoutrement to the Toysmith's gun rig , as a way of tying together Margherite's look . This is another kitbash that I really like a great deal .

Cool Girl Custom for a NEW Femforce Character!

Sometimes the coolest things happen when you are just goofing around . Tesse began simply enough by just being a clothes horse . I had put on the black catsuit from the Kat figure after Kat got turned into the Warrior Maiden , and tossed on Ebony's red mini dress and boots once I had started work on the General Strock custom and scarfed the underwear from this BBi " Perfect Body " brunette for use with the general . Tesse's belt started out as a bandolier and her headband was in action as it was originally intended , as a belt . Sitting in front of the boob tube one evening I put the belt on her head and moved the bandolier to her waist ; and for some reason I just flashed on an image of an eastern themed Chop Sockey heroine , it was probably influenced by the colors red and black in combo with the bright yellow head band , who can figure out the creative whim ? I quickly dug through my christmas decorations and pulled out one of the big felt covered plastic bows that I typically use to deck the halls during that festive season and cut out the shape of Tesse's tunic and dressed her up . Ah, sooo. Worked for me . I then cut off the sleeves from one of my FemBasix unitards and re - sewed them into the arm bands . I contemplated the remaining bits of costuming over a weeks time , doodling out ideas on paper and basically just thinking out what to do next . I decided to create a pair of brass shoulder guards since I had never made any plate armor before and wanted to see how it'd look . They sat unattached to her shoulders for a couple of weeks as again I contemplated how I wanted to approach their attachment to the figure . I opted to handle them in the old " samurai " way , with lacing , which would securely hold them on without limiting the articulation of the figure . This also provided me the outlet to include lacing knotwork as part of her design elements which always looks really cool provided you can find a suitable way for its inclusion . This figure is close to being finished , but I've still some tweaks to apply .

This custom figure has served as the inspiration for a new addition to my Femforce Millennium universe , as part of The Pearls of Blood , a storyline that is being developed as a tie in with AC Comics' Femforce at my FF2K site . It is a spin off Femforce series which will serve as a vehicle for the character The Scarlet Scorpion . Tesse is the second character of a duo , the first is Kumi , who is a " kitbash in progress " using the Cutie Honey figure . She'll be showing up here eventually along with two villainesses , " Ghost Tiger " who is a custom using Cool Girl " Sky " and a custom kitbash of a lady ninja utilizing Jakk's " Lucy Lieu " figure and 21st Century Toys' " Victoria " . I'm having some fun sewing 1/6 scale tabi boots for her .
