 The success of the Cool Girl line of 1/6th scale action figures has prompted Takara Toys to begin releasing high end variants of their best sellers , the classic original Cool Girls . Built on the new 2.0 version body with some of the best articulation one has ever seen and sporting new face paints , the " Best of " series takes what we loved about the first issues and pumps up the volume 10 fold . Having already picked up the first two , when I saw the prototype promo shots for ASH at the " Unofficial Bootleg " site I immediately put in a pre-order ; this was without a doubt the hottest CG I had yet seen . While here in the states , Barbie rules as concerns the latest in high end fashion collectible dolls , the Cool Girls have certainly made their mark when it comes to the fashion subculture . Reminiscent of the premier years of avant garde fashion showcased in Details Magazine during the early 80's with trashy chic , the penchant of the japanese fascination with the Gothic Lolita subculture of the fashion scene is rendered in stunning presentation with the variant Ash doll . From the balloon sleeves of her leather coat , down to her patent leather look garter belt and thigh highs the new Ash figure is dressed to kill .   Out of the box , Ash has the standard issue CG trademarks : 3 pair of alternate hands , a magnum sidearm , sunglasses along with this figure's signature weapon , a katana . The hair , unlike the original Ash is straight , with brown eyes and a more neutral pearlescent lip paint in contrast to the blue eyes and traditional red lip paint on Version 1 . Like the other high end CG's , the sunglasses have folding temples and are cast in transparent plastic in contrast to the one piece , usually chrome plated casts of the standard issues . Right out of the box this figure is perfect with a capital P . This however , doesn't mean she doesn't inspire subtle nuances to be added in accordance with individual tastes .  The first bit of customizing I did with this figure was on the katana , which is a 3 piece construction ; blade , tsuba and handle . The blade is chrome plated plastic and having a full set of Monofuku katanas I decided to replace the blade with an actual steel blade complete with watering ( it looks so much cooler ! ) Next I did some playing around with her hairstyle , pulling her hair back and fastening it with a miniature hand made barette leaving some free hanging sidelocks ; in order to add some layering to the hairstyle and playing up the dominatrix look . It was also my way of paying an indirect homage to the character of Miranda Frost ( portrayed in " Die Another Day " by Rosamund Pike ) , another " hottie with an edged weapon " . I also swapped out her magnum in favor of my personal favorite sidearm , a Colt . 45 with a clip holster that fit furtively on her thigh highs and doesn't interrupt the flow of lines as did the bulky Mag Hammer and hip rig .   It could be that Ash doesn't carry her sword when she's not wearing her overcoat , which has a loop on the back to slip the saya thru , but I wanted the added flexibility of having her capable of wearing her sword without the coat . To facilitate this as well as to add some additional authenticity to the accoutrements , I used silk cord to tie sageo knots on the saya forming belt loops in the process . This still allows the saya to pass thru the loop on her over coat as well as adding more neat looking detail . As you can also see , the .45's clip holster looks very natural on her thigh , easily accessible while still remaining easily concealed under her coat .  For close combat Ash has her katana , long range needs are covered by the pistol , still I decided she should have a weapon that serves the purposes of the previous two , thus her naginata/glaive . This is a customized Monofuku Trading kit , the original blade removed and the shaft lengthened a small bit . The blade cover is from the original naginata blade , but I replaced the stock blade with the more ornate chinese glaive head from " Dreams & Visions " Miss Fear action figure being a much heavier , thus fiercer looking blade . You never see slings on polearms , typically they aren't the type of weapon one carries around aside from actual combat situations , but this is a toy and doesn't have to follow the rules of reality . Still , one would want it to have the appearance that it could function in real life . Since this would be a feature that would definitely receive a great amount of wear and tear , I used a heavier shoestring lace to tie it , adding a shoulder as well as hand loop .
