![]() Every kitbash is a great deal of fun to work on ; but there are , on occasion , those kitbashes that transcend the ordinary to elevate to the sublime . Those that take on a life of their own that serve to not only inspire but result in such sheer joy and delight in their creation that they become instant treasures . This was my experience in the creation of " Bad Amy " . Please allow me to share her with you . I have naught but praise for the artist responsible for Dragon Models' " Amy " figure , so far the only non-Cool Girl in my Cool Girl collection that is on par with Takara's 12 inch action babes . To say that I am infatuated with her is an understatement , and I was anxious to transform her into my own custom kitbash version . This was a figure that originally had been part of Dragon's 5 Star Collection , Amy outfitted as an airforce soldier , whose uniform had been cannibalized for my General Strock custom . Amy , however , was destined for a much more individualistic persona than merely a military soldier , which I already had in the second Amy I had acquired who is remaining in her stock military attire . This time I was going to have fun , although at the time I didn't realize just how much fun I was going to have . ![]() When I first began conceptualizing my kitbash , I was using the camo leftovers from Cool Girl Kat , which for the unitiated are a vest and shorts . I was still incorporating Amy's original t-shirt in this attire . I like the look of this figures legs , which while not having the bulk of Cool Girl legs , still possess a lean strength to their appearance , and the shorts allowed me to show that off . The beret worked really nicely on her and so I was tossing around the idea of pairing her up with my stock Kat figure , the second of a duo . I pulled the low cut boots from my Sideshow Frank Black figure along with his socks and transferred them to Amy as well as taking the elbow pads from Cool Girl Ice ( before Cardinal Garrison ) and put them to service as Amy's kneepads . I carefully removed the lower sleeve leathers from Ice's jacket , resewed them and put them on Amy , similar to Kat's leather half sleeves as a way of stylistically linking the two figures costuming and still keeping them different aside from the basics of vest and shorts and beret . Amy stayed in this form for a short time , and I was happy with her pair up with the Kat figure . Trouble in paradise began because of the camo shorts , which just fell a bit short ( pardon the pun ) as regards their cut when worn by the Amy figure . They just didn't work as well with her thin legs in the same fashion they did with the Cool Girls' beefier gams . I was then struck by the idea of outfitting her in biker style shorts , something form fitting that would accentuate the lean musculature of Amy's legs . Most of my Cool Girls are clad in some variation of catsuit or pants , only Malicia and Barbara Dark are wearing skirts , and having alternately tried Amy in one of my discarded Blaze catsuits I had already decided I wanted to stray away somewhat from not showing skin , but the Blaze catsuit did fit her well . I figured that catsuit would work just as well if I chopped off the legs so that it looked more like workout togs . I used acid free hemming tape to shortcut the sewing of a hem where I cut off the legs of the catsuit . The look was exactly what I was seeking , and in combination with Frank Black's " too big " shoes , his rolled down socks , the knee pads and half sleeves from the Ice jacket " Bad Amy " was beginning to assert herself . ![]() Amy's leather vest originally comes from BBI's Elite Force Terminate " Scorpion the Enforcer " action figure , that I picked up loose from Old Joe Infirmary , for the simple fact that I liked the level of quality with which it was made ; at the time I had no plans for it other than I thought it would be a great item of clothing for a future kitbash . The fact that it's a bit too big for Amy worked well in conjunction with her " too big " boots and baggy socks . I decided I wanted to hide her neck joint and felt a spiked collar would add a nice gothic flair . Her collar was made from a belt loop from a really old pair of leather pants from my own mowhawk sporting counter culture days , and the spikes were cut off nails from my " hardware " trays that I just punched thru the leather loop . I only pushed 4 through the front , not wanting their length to interfere with the collar of the vest at back of her neck ( besides , Amy only wears it to keep people from trying to get her in a choke hold from behind anyway) . ![]() Gearing " Bad Amy " up was a straightforward and easy process . Her arsenal developed in stages . I gave her a hand cuff pouch because I figured she would find them useful for both work and play . Her Franchi SPAS 12 came about by the sheer fact that they come with every Cool Girl so I've got oodles of them , and with her Terminator-esque look , it was a way to pay homage to that classic bit of sci-fi noir . The BBI SPAS 12 does not come equipped with a sling , but I needed to fit it with one for this figure . Fortunately , I had one ready made from the Thompson submachine gun I had picked up as a weapon accessory for my Barbara Dark kitbash . Barb didn't really need a sling for her tommy gun since she only uses that when facing off with mortal thugs so off it came . I used a pin vise to drill holes in the appropriate places on the shotgun and attached the sling , done deal . Blaze's thigh shotgun shell belt was also added . All that " Bad Amy " needed now was small arms . ![]() Again , as homage to both The Terminator and Dirty Harry , I wanted to heel " Bad Amy " with " the most powerful handgun in the world , that'll blow your head clean off " if you'r not feeling lucky . Unfortunately I didn't have a .44 in my gun stock . I DID however , have the chamber and grip from my conversion of the Destiny Mag Hammer and that was a start . I was not concerned with reproducing a replica of an existing Magnum , heck there are hordes of Magnum variations in the world of handguns , so why not one more ? I cut off the barrel from one of my BBI Desert Eagles , did some dremeling , cutting and filing , and glued it to the Mag Hammer body . I needed to beef up the barrel a bit so I added a bit more plastic from a space ship model kit . I also needed to add a sighting detail on the top of the Mag Hammer body and used a 144 th scale model bit cut to shape for that . I didn't have a holster to fit this custom hand gun , so I made one of my own . The pin for flap was cut and shaped from an aluminum rod and pushed thru the body of the holster and glued in place . I cut a slit in the flap to push it through and hold the magnum securely within the holster . Again I used a belt loop from those old leather pants as the belt loop for the holster . ![]() I've got a couple of combat knives in my weapon stock , but " Bad Amy " needed a signature knife , and it needed to be , like her vest and boots , " too big " . A bowie seemed to be the answer , but like her .44 , I didn't have a bowie in my weapon stock . I did however , have a dissecting scalpel , once used in my sculpting but long since retired having being too well used . It was pretty close in shape and of adequate size as per the blade to serve as the base for Amy's bowie . It was a one piece scalpel , so once I cut off the handle with a metal cutting head on my dremel and using carbide bits to shape and contour the blade ( as well as dull the edge to render it non lethal , it will however , still stick nicely in wood ! ) I had the base of Amy's bowie . I cut to shape sheet brass and fitted it to the knife as a hand guard and then used the rubber insulation from a coaxial cable to make the handle grip covering . This was , of course , to narrow to slip over the metal of the handle , but with the rubber stretched open with needle nosed pliers and then heated with a hair dryer , I was able to soften the rubber enough to stretch it so that it would slip tightly over the handle . As with the .44 , I had no sheath for her bowie so I had to make that as well , in much the same fashion as I used for the magnum holster .
