Amaya DX : Triad Toys Does IT Again!

Every War Begins With A Saga . . .

thus goes the introduction to Triad Toys' New Ternion Wars Alpha DX Series 1:6 Scale Action Figure accessory Set , " Amaya " . With every other manufacturer of 1:6 scale action figures playing it safe and producing licensed figures it's truly refreshing to see a new company taking the initiative and creating an original mythos featuring iconic characters to satisfy a very opinionated and demanding market . It's not surprising actually if you are familiar with the company founded by Customdawg , he said he was out to shake up the action figure market and drive it to the next level which is exactly what his Triad toys has continued to do with each and every new release .

Action Figures As Art

With the pricetag for 1:6 scale figures seemingly on a perpetual rise it's nice to see products that actually justify the expense collectors delegate to such items . The DX Line itself has always been a " premium " series , limited edition sets with painstaking attention to detail , each one hand painted and priced lower than most mass produced " specialty " sets that while nice rarely fulfill the promise of the prototype . Triad has actually increased their standard production runs for the DX sets simply because of the demand by customers and sets that have sold out within hours of release . " HOT " just doesn't seem to adequately capture the marketability of Triad Toys' DX Line .

Action Characters NOT Action Figures !
Shane Talbot , Triad's Sculptor Supreme perpetually outdoes himself on the DX line of headsculpts , and Amaya certainly is no exception . Female headsculpts often display rather bland features which is sort of understandable since most of us want " pretty girls " , Takara's Cool Girls broke the mold initially with their headsculpts finally giving us women who didn't possess that vacant Barbie-ness , and Triad has stepped up the competition by delivering us women with character along with looks . Amaya's furrowed brow , firm and uncompromising pout and telltale scar of a battle gone wrong give her an intensity and vitality that you just typically don't see anywhere in the field of 1:6 action girls . The resin with which the headsculpt was cast is superior , possessing a look and quality of the finest bisque porcelain , and combined with hand painted features is stunning and remarkable . I've been amazed that each DX headsculpt I have been fortunate enough to add to my collection keeps getting better and better ; merely because with each one I ask myself " how are they gonna top THIS one ?!?"

Triad has also redesigned the way the headsculpt attaches to the neckpost , the result being a much more realistic appearance than what has come before and while the Amaya DX head doesn't feature the " moveable eyes " that made their earlier DX heads so cool , it still retains the spectacular look and quality that we have come to expect from Triad and I really don't miss being able to change her gaze , it was a neat feature to be sure , but not the sole reason I was buying these heads in the first place , Amaya has everything that I look for in a good headsculpt , even more since she looks like she has purpose !

THIS IS WHAT I CALL A HEADSCULPT ! WOW !!

Costuming Fit For A Ninja-Hottie!

Triad has released some of the coolest looking ninja suits available in 1:6 scale and Amaya continues that tradition with the couture of a dark Gwen Stefani . The fit is perfect , the lay of the fabric is natural and the combination of snakeskin fabric along with the black cotton really adds to the image of a " hero " figure , this ain't your " run of the rice paddy " ninja , nosireebob !! Triad's dedication to quality is never so apparent as in the costuming details . Where other manufacturers would use elastic or a string or cord , on Amaya's arm and shin guards the ties are actual cotton fabric ties , which really looks sharp when fastened and adds that 1:1 realism that the discerning collector is so hungry for . The sandals are treated in similar fashion and are truly exceptional in the world of " dollie footwear " , and add such a distinctive touch to the overall look of the figure I was able to move beyond my " ninja tabi fetish " . As a fan and afficianado of chinese knotwork and japanese sageo knots , an outfit like this with ties and laces and obi is just a great deal of fun to put on but sadly no instructions are provided which really is the only drawback I found with this set , for I think someone not quite as " obsessive compulsive " as I am might find the amount of tying and lacing required to be rather intimidating without a guide .

You can find Amaya and a whole lotta other Triad Excellence in 1:6 Scale at the Triad Toys Website .
